What makes this show DIFFERENT from other feminist comedy shows? Well, we provide a place for comedians to do longer sets than they'd usually get to do, also, "Taking Up Space" features female and gender non-conforming identifying comics exclusively

Jess Beaulieu @msjessbeaulieu

Jess Beaulieu is a comedian, writer, actor, teacher, podcaster, and feminist.She co-hosts a comedy podcast called The Crimson Wave, which is all about the glory of periods and was named one of BlogTO's top ten Toronto podcasts. She co-hosts a weekly stand-up show called Crimson Wave Comedy.

Jess has performed at JFL42 (Just for Laughs in Toronto), the Boston Women in Comedy Festival, the Chicago Women's Funny Festival, the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research, Toronto's Feminist Art Conference and the music festivals Sled Island in Calgary and Field Trip in Toronto. She has hosted several events for large charitable organizations including Planned Parenthood, the YWCA, and SlutWalk.She has also written for She Does The City, CBC Comedy and 29 Secrets.

Brandon Ash Mohammed

Brandon Ash-Mohammed. Is a Tim Sims Award nominated comedian, an Esther Maers Peerce Award winning writer. His darling masterpiece "The Decision" was featured in the Humber 10 Minute Play Festival. Sirius XM has also recorded his stand up in an attempt to capture and contain the radiant, pure bliss that is, Brandon-Ash Mohammed.

In early 2017, he was selected to join the acclaimed sketch troupe Fusion. They're a comedy collective made up of the best and brightest people of colour from the Bad Dog Theatre and Second City Training Centre. They'll be making their first appearance at Toronto Sketchfest this year. In addition to that, Brandon is currently being filmed for a TVO documentary about racialized comedians in Canada. Most recently, Brandon did punch up for British writer/actor OT Fagbenle (HBO's LOOKING, BBC One's THE INTERCEPTOR) on a project he's currently developing in the UK.

Deanne Smith @DeAnne_Smith

DeAnne Smith has performed all over the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Iceland Comedy Festival and Just for Laughs Montreal and Chicago to name a few. She's also been on TV in four countries, including on Last Comic Standing NBC, The Late Late Show on CBS, Canada's The Comedy Network and CBC, Australia's Channel 10 and ABC, and UK's Sky TV.

The Montreal Gazette says DeAnne is "fresh, cutting...one of the finest wits in the country." The UK's Telegraph calls her "Smart. Very funny. Effortless charm lets her get away with murder." She's never actually murdered anyone.
